Name-Based Case Searches
The statewide starting point is MiCOURT Case Search. That is where a Delta County case search by name begins. The public process opens with an acceptance step. It also labels its results as informational rather than the official court record. The required field is Last Name or Business. First Name, Middle Name, and Birth Year are extras you can add. Which searches work depends on the court and the case category.
- Accept the public-search terms and open the name panel.
- Enter a last name or business name, then add the optional name fields only when needed to narrow a result.
- Review the court, category, case number, and status before opening a likely result.
- Ask the court of record to confirm a material case detail or a result that does not appear current.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Official Use Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name or Business | Text | Yes | The report identifies this as the required name field. |
| First Name | Text | No | Optional field for narrowing a name search. |
| Middle Name | Text | No | Optional field shown in the official interface inventory. |
| Birth Year | Number | No | Available as a name-search field; do not publish personal identifiers. |
A searcher who needs help using the public interface has a dedicated option. The MiCOURT accessibility and accommodation route explains the support the statewide case-search service provides, including accommodations for using the docket lookup tools.
Accessibility support does not expand a search to records that court rules make nonpublic.
Delta County MiCOURT Search Start
MiCOURT can expose civil, traffic, criminal, domestic, or probate categories depending on the court. So the court designation matters in any Delta County result. The 47th Circuit Court is Delta County's general-jurisdiction trial court. It includes family division work. The 94th District Court takes Delta County traffic and civil infractions. It also handles misdemeanors, felony preliminary matters, bail, and limited civil cases. Delta County Probate Court stands apart as its own trial court.
A match in MiCOURT is a Delta County public case-history lead. It is not proof that every document in the file can be viewed or downloaded. The system warns against bulk downloading and blocks nonpublic data. When a case does not appear, identify the likely Delta County court first. Then ask that court whether the record can be inspected or copied under the applicable rule.
For a Circuit matter, the official Circuit Court contact page offers a way to ask local staff questions. It is not an online record-ordering promise.
Use a contact channel to clarify procedure or the right court, never to request a legal interpretation of a case.
Federal matters sit outside the Delta County state-court system. PACER is the official federal access route, while CourtListener/RECAP can offer a free but incomplete starting point for federal opinions and contributed filings.
Case Number Searches
MiCOURT's separate case-number panel asks for Year / Number / Type. Those are the publicly documented components. Enter them the way the interface requests. There is no verified universal Delta County punctuation pattern or stable public sample number, so do not reformat a number into a made-up local code. If the case number is incomplete, start with the year and known court details, then confirm with the court of record.
A case history can include the case number, filing date, court, category, parties, attorneys where public, assigned judge or jurist, status, docket entries, public event dates, and a public disposition or judgment event. A case-number result is often more precise than a name result. Even so, it still may not provide document images, a downloadable docket PDF, transcript access, a full ledger, or a stable public detail link for Delta County.
Delta County Search Filter Limits
Filtering is where a Delta County docket search gets technical. The MiCOURT API reference spells out the qualifiers and filters a developer can build on: categories like civil, criminal, domestic, probate, traffic, and juvenile, plus status and date filters. It also covers pagination for pulling results in bulk. That document is written for integration work. You need an account to use it that way. So treat it as a map of what the system can hold, not proof of what the public screen will hand you.
For an everyday Delta County case lookup, the safer route is simple. Use the filters you can actually see on the public MiCOURT screen. If a result needs verification, contact the clerk of the court that holds the record. Note: developer filter documentation does not establish which fields an ordinary public user can see or search in a Delta County case.
Case Search Results Explained
What does a result in a case search actually give you? Michigan Court Rule 8.119 calls the register of actions the case history kept by the clerk. A public search result may point to that history instead of the full case file. Seeing a motion, order, or hearing listed proves one thing. The event appears in the register. The document behind that entry is another matter. It may be unavailable online, restricted, or something you have to request from the court.
| Case Number | The public identifier used to find the court's case history. |
|---|---|
| Court | The court designation that identifies the proper local custodian. |
| Category | A public case type or subcategory where MiCOURT makes it visible. |
| Status | A platform label such as open, closed, disposed, deferred, or suppressed. |
| Register Entry | A dated public event or filing history item, not automatically a document image. |
Watch the wording in a case status, because "closed," "disposed," "suppressed," "nonpublic," and "sealed" do not mean the same thing. A closed case can still carry public history anyone can read, while a suppressed or restricted record may stay out of reach of the public tool entirely.
Delta County Court Display Events
MiCOURT Court Display is a statewide public events interface. It is not the case search screen. The public view lets you move through dates and pick a court. Its columns list Party Name, Time, Room, and Case Number.
The interface works best after you already know the case. Once a Delta County case number is in hand, the public display helps you spot published event details for that case.
An empty events list does not mean the case is idle. Treat a blank Delta County display as a question for the court, not an answer. Confirm any setting directly with the clerk, since the local Circuit and Referee calendars sit behind a password.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Delta County docket searching runs on two layers. There is no single confirmed county portal that replaces MiCOURT for the public. MiCOURT serves as the statewide starting point, covering participating courts. The local court of record is the second layer. When a statewide result comes back incomplete, unavailable, or restricted, the local court can help. It can confirm procedure, inspection, or a copy request.
| Statewide MiCOURT | Delta County Court of Record |
|---|---|
| Public case-search starting point with court-dependent availability. | Custodian for the official local case record and procedural confirmation. |
| Offers name and case-number search panels. | Can explain local access channels, including counter, mail, phone, or request routes. |
| May show a public case history or event information. | Can address inspection or copy access within court-record restrictions. |
Need a hearing date instead of a case history? The Delta County court schedule page separates Court Display from the local scheduling forms.
Delta County Probate Search Boundary
Delta County Probate Court accepts attorney filing through MiFILE. Self-represented litigants are not required to e-file, per the county. A case filed in MiFILE is not necessarily viewable there. So MiFILE cannot replace MiCOURT's public-search boundary or the court's own record-access rules. Think of it as a filing channel first. Public case lookup still runs through the other routes. The official MiFILE available-courts listing places Delta County Probate Court at the county courthouse. It also posts the court's contact information.
When a Probate case will not load in MiFILE, the system's notice tells the user to notify support and file in person or by mail. That path is a filing fallback only. It is not a public search result. Note: MiFILE marks a filing route for Delta County Probate, not a promise of public access to Probate case documents.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
MiCOURT keeps whole categories out of public view. The list includes adoption, juvenile and child-protective proceedings, juvenile guardianships, mental illness, name changes, parental waivers, personal protection orders, surrendered-newborn-child matters, treatment of infectious disease, extreme-risk protection orders, young-adult voluntary foster care, and wills. Each court can also display differently. Read these exclusions as a limit on public search. They are not a statement about every Delta County file. Michigan Court Rule 8.119(H) restricts general access. It covers case records that are not public. Juvenile case files carry separate legitimate-interest standards under the Michigan juvenile court rules. A name search will not surface a sealed, nonpublic, or protected record.
Delta County Result Privacy Limits
Michigan Court Rule 1.109 governs redaction of protected information, Social Security numbers included. The 2024 SCAO protected-PII memo says MiCOURT displays year of birth. It masks registers of actions. Current portal users can do nothing with driver-license numbers as a search field. Any public lookup should use only what is needed to identify the correct court record. A missing result can simply mean one thing. No public record exists in the form requested. That may reflect restriction, sealing, a different office, or the absence of a public record. It proves nothing about any underlying event. Court staff can explain procedure. They cannot give legal advice about a case or its access status. Note: Keep birth dates, driver-license information, Social Security numbers, protected addresses, and juvenile identifiers private. Keep them out of any public search or record request.
